Coe College Senior Night

The Coe College men’s and women’s basketball team took on Simpson College at 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 21^st. The Lady Kohawks played first and lost 58-68. The men’s team won 76-71. The games took place at Kohawk Arena in Cedar Rapids. Regardless of the loss, both teams celebrated Senior Night with the players’ parents in attendance. Both teams will play in the A-R-C tournament this coming week. The men will play on Tuesday, February 24^th, at 7:00 P.M. The women will play at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 24^th. Both games will take place in the Kohawk Arena.

Caydee Kirkham (number four) blocks her opponent as she dribbles down the court. Kirkham scored a total of eight points with five assists and two rebounds.

Coe’s number 13, Kelly Knight, dribbles toward the basket. Knight completed six rebounds and two assists. She scored a total of 11 points.

Women’s head coach, Kayla Waskow, briefs her team during a timeout. Waskow took the head coach position in 2017. Currently, she holds a .600-win percentage and has won over 100 games.

Audrie Helmrichs (number 33) goes in for a layup. Helmrichs finished the game with 24 points, one assist and seven rebounds.

The Senior Kohawks (women above) stand beside their parents on Senior Night. The game held Saturday afternoon marked a celebration for the team, who prepared to say goodbye to their Seniors, and commemorate their accomplishments.

Coe’s number four, Deuce Walters, shoots a free throw. Walters scored a total of 12 points and made five rebounds.

Cooper Nailor (number 5) makes a run down the court. Nailor made 15 points, two assists and five rebounds.

Kaleb Wilgenbusch (number 33) goes in for a shot. He made five rebounds and two total point.

Men’s head coach, John Payan, briefs his team during a timeout. Payan has been the head coach since the Summer of 2024. Previously, he served as the head coach for the Junior Varsity team at the University of the Dubuque. He currently holds a win record 8-8.
