Funk Daddies Perform During Rock The Block
Newbo City Market Hosts Eastern Iowa's Funkiest Band
The Funk Daddies performed during NewBo City Market’s fifth weekly Rock The Block concert at Bankers Trust Stage on the front lawn of NewBo City market. Rock the Block is a weekly concert series that takes place on the front lawn of NewBo City market every Friday from the beginning of May until the end of April. It begins at 6:00PM, and ends at 8:00PM. The Funk Daddies have been performing their blend of horn driven Soul, R&B, and Dance music for the last 23 years. With 15 more shows left before the end of the year the Funk Daddies will be performing at many of the midwest’s best outdoor venues and events including Cedar Ridge Winery & Distillery, Fireside Winery, the Annual Root Beer Festival, and Solon Beef Days among several others. the band also features six different members of the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
NewBo City Market’s Director of Programming and Events Nolan Henkle adresses the crowd and introduces the band the Funk Daddies during the concert held at Bankers Trust Stage on Friday June fifth. Henkle has been the Director of Programming and Events at NewBo City Market for the last three years.
Cedar Rapids native Craig Erickson plays lead guitar during his first performance back with the Funk Daddies in almost two years. Erickson missed time due to an ongoing battle with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). During his time away from the band Erickson had to go through chemo, and receive a stem cell transplant in order to treat the cancer.

Jacobs has been working at NewBo City Market part-time for the last month, and worked as a bartender in Daytona Beach before moving to Iowa.
Dave Shawver plays the saxophone with the Funk Daddies during Friday night’s concert held at Bankers Trust Stage on the front lawn of NewBo City Market. Shawver has also played saxophone for the Cabala Musical Gang, the Lincoln Garcia Band, and singer/songwriter Rick Tyler.

Guitarist and Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Dave Rosazza performs with the rest of the Funk Daddies during Friday’s concert. Rosazza has been performing for over 30 years, and currently operates Rosazza Lesson Studios in Iowa City.
Denny Ketelsen plays the keyboard for the Funk Daddies on Friday June fifth. Ketelsen has played in various bands since he was 17 years old, and was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 with the band Shade of Blue.
Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer and Funk Daddies co-founder Ken Duncan performs with the band on Friday June fifth. Duncan attended the University of Iowa School of Music and has played in several bands including the Federal Reserve, Cabala, Express, City Soul Band, The Invisible Jazz Band, Hawk Rap, and of course the Funk Daddies.
Lead vocalist Anthony Hendricks performs with the rest of the Funk Daddies on Friday June fifth. Hendricks recorded his first original song on an international gospel album at the age of nine. The Funk Daddies next show will be at the UI Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center Event on June 18th.
