Kirkwood Baseball and Softball
Both Teams Win In Commanding Fashion
The Kirkwood Baseball team took on Ellsworth Community College while the Softball team took on Iowa Lakes Community College on Sunday the 19th. Both the softball and Baseball teams played two games with the first ones taking place at 1:00PM at Kirkwood’s Baseball and Softball fields. The men won their first game 16-6, and their second game 11-0. The women won their games 14-3, and 11-2. They were originally supposed to play these games on Friday and Saturday however due to the weather on Friday all four games were pushed back until Sunday in order to give the give the field time to dry out.
Kirkwood’s number 34 sophomore Alex Altmann from Buffalo Minnesota stands at bat during the game against Ellsworth community college on Sunday. Altmann had two at bats and scored one run in each of Kirkwood’s baseball games on Sunday.
The Eagles Short Stop sophomore Brady Blake from Indianola Iowa throws a runner out during Kirkwood’s second game against Ellsworth on Sunday. Blake went two for two scoring in both of his at bats in the first game and two for three in the second game.
Kirkwood’s number 32 catcher (sophomore) Ty Andrews from Johnson Iowa takes a swing at the ball while at bat during the second game against Ellsworth on Sunday the 19th. Andrews scored three runs during the first game and two during the second game.
Kirkwood pitcher redshirt freshman Drew Zemaitis from Shorewood Illinois throws a strike during the second game on Sunday in Cedar Rapids. Zemaitis struck out seven batters during Kirkwood’s second game against Ellsworth on Sunday helping Kirkwood’s baseball team improve to a record of 15-5 in Conference, and 39-7 overall.
The Kirkwood Softball team’s number six (Fr) Alley Gorsh from Williamsburg Iowa hits a pop fly into the backfield. Gorsh scored one run in the first game.
Pitcher Carley Cavanagh prepares to throw the ball during the Eagles second game against Iowa Lakes in Cedar Rapids on Sunday the 19th. Cavanagh struck out six different batters during the game.

The lady Eagles number 20 Savannah Caves from Alburnett Iowa hits a grand slam during the second game against Iowa Lakes on Sunday the 19th. Caves scored one run in the first game and two in the second game while helping the Kirkwood Softball team improve their record to 31-1 in conference and 51-5 overall.
