The Chamber of Commerce in Marion hosted their fifth annual Oktoberfest celebration in downtown Marion on Saturday September 19th from 11:00AM-3:00PM. The event featured 19 different brewers from Marion and the surrounding area. It also featured games such as Hammerschlagen, a Wiener Sprintchzel, and a Stein Holding contest. The proceeds from Marion’s Oktoberfest celebration go to their Winter Light Program which provides the winter decorations for the city of Marion. Last years Oktoberfest raised about $7,000.

The first Oktoberfest took place just outside of Munich in Germany on October 12th 1810, and was held in celebration of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria’s marriage to Princess Saxe-Hildburghausen.
